Hoe zat het ook al weer met de verschillende RAID sets en wat zijn de mogelijkheden?

  • RAID 0 (nul), ook wel striping genoemd
    • Blokken data (64kB) worden om en om weggeschreven op de 2 HDD’s
    • Grote nadeel: als 1 van je 2 HDD”s stuk? Dan alle data kwijt.
    • 3 HDD”s van 500 Gb geven een totale opslag van 1,5TB
  • RAID 1, ook wel mirroring genoemd
    • data wordt identiek naar de 2 HDD’s geschreven.
    • Grote voordeel: als 1 van je 2 HDD’s stuk gaat dan heb je nog al je data op de andere disk
    • een RAID-set van 2 disks van 500Gb geeft maar 500Gb opslag
  • RAID 3/5
    • Je hebt minimaal 3 HDD”s nodig. Eén ervan wordt als parity-disk aangemerkt en niet voor opslag gebruikt (RAID3) of de parity wordt over alle disken verspreidt (RAID5).
    • Door deze methode kan 1 van de 3 HDD’s crashen zonder dataverlies.
    • Bij gebruik van 3 HDD’s van 250 Gb heb je totaal 500Gb opslagcapaciteit.
  • RAID 10
    • RAID 0 en 1 zijn ook te combineren en heet dan RAID 0+1. Hierbij dus minimaal 4 HDD”s nodig waarbij de data over 2 HDD”s paren wordt gestriped.
